Visual Impairment Awareness Training

What is visual impairment awareness training?

It is a wide range of things that you can do to help, to make a person feel valued, to enable a person to keep their dignity and independence; it is also a thought provoking exercise to make your home, work place or public space a friendlier place for a person with a visual impairment to visit.

What do we offer?

We offer a number of courses for individuals or organisations
Tailored to your organisational or individual customer requirements.
A half day (3hrs) or full day (7hrs) with theoretical and practical workshops.

The table below will give you an approximate time table and an outline of topics for you to choose from for your training, we can offer a more complex program package on many subjects such as Braille which could take many hours if an individual or a small group would benefit from them, it is difficult to set out a plan for such a project as it will be dependant on the individuals concerned.

What the Attendees Receive

All attendees will receive a pack containing handouts relevant to workshops covered while attending the course along with some general information, the opportunity to ask a visually impaired person questions that can be answered from first hand experience and a wider understanding of issues relating to visual impairment.

We will hold a mix of theory and practical hands on group activities which will be determined by the content of your day or half day, we can give you guidance as to which topics will give you the out comes that you are seeking.

Day Plan

A half day would generally have 2 workshops each lasting about 1 hour.
Commencing with a welcome and introduction, ending the session with a overview, a break half way through the session overall time about 3 hours, generally 9 am – 12 pm, or 1 pm – 4 pm.

A full day would have 5 workshops a lunch break and a second break in the afternoon, overall time 7 hours. Generally held 9 am – 4 pm

Adjustments to timing may be accommodated dependant on transport and other commitments.

You’re Part

We would like if possible for you to arrange tea or coffee for breaks, a room for the training or if required you may need to hire a room which the cost of hire would be in addition to the course costs.

Lunch is an optional extra for the organisation or the individuals to provide.

If traveling time is more than 2 hours in addition to a full days training, we will require accommodation.

Some costs can be shared if other events can be arranged in the local area.

What We Ask

Unless any objections are raised we may be recording the training session to assist us with any further training or evaluation of content and quality.

As both of our Trainers have a visual impairment they will need meeting at the Entrance or Reception, a designated person to assist if an evacuation is required and an area to allow their guide dogs to “spend a penny”

Finally

We will require a contact name/details for the day, address of the venue and telephone number, the number of attendees and guidance on the topics that you would like us to deliver.

A fee of 10 percent non refundable will be charged to confirm your booking.
The minimum invoice charge would be for 1 and a half hours.
